Long Island summers are lived hard — houseguests, beach days, barbecues, sandy dogs, and doors that never stop opening. The homes that sail through it are the ones that entered the season reset. Here's the spring checklist we run for hundreds of Island households, in the order that makes each step easier.
Step 1: Carpets and Rugs First
Deep-clean the wall-to-wall carpet before summer traffic starts compounding winter's soil — traffic lanes reset now stay presentable through Labor Day. Send wool and Oriental rugs for plant washing in April and they're back before Memorial Day; natural-fiber pieces get their dry-method refresh in place. Beach-area homes: this is also the sand-extraction reset our sand guide describes.
Step 2: The Seating Everyone Will Use
Upholstery cleaning for the family room pieces and — critically — the white and pale fabrics about to meet a season of sunscreen (survival tactics in the white sofa guide). Outdoor cushions come out of storage musty; cleaned now, they're fresh for the first barbecue instead of the third.
Step 3: Guest Rooms and Wet Zones
Mattress cleaning for every guest bed before the visitor season — the highest-impact freshness move nobody thinks of. Tile and grout in kitchens, baths, and around the pool, sealed so the season's sunscreen and sandy feet wipe away instead of soaking in.
Step 4: Don't Forget the Car
The family car is about to become a beach shuttle. A spring interior detail clears winter; an exterior with sealant armors the paint against the salt-air season ahead.
One Call Runs the List
Most of this checklist happens in one or two coordinated visits — carpet, upholstery, mattresses, tile, and the driveway car in a single scheduling call. April and early May book the calmest; (631) 315-2185 answers live at any hour, serving every town from Glen Cove to East Hampton.
