What Each Method Buys
In-home low-moisture cleaning refreshes the surface: right for maintenance between deep cleans, for rugs that can't travel, and — critically — for water-sensitive plant fibers like sisal and jute, which get dry methods only (our natural-fiber guide explains why water ruins them). Plant immersion washing is the full treatment: dusting that beats pounds of dry grit from the foundation, a true wash and rinse, controlled drying, and hand-finished fringe. Hand-knotted wool holds dirt in its foundation that only immersion reaches.
Which Does Your Rug Need?
Machine-made synthetics: in-home is usually plenty. Wool and Orientals: plant washing every 2–4 years, in-home maintenance between.
